"Never allow anything to divert you from your insight into Jesus Christ.  It is the true test of whether you are spiritual or not.  To be unspiritual means that other things have a growing fascination for you."

Cathy Kreis

Introduced to AFCI in 1991, Cathy began short term missions in 1993 to help with pastors’ conferences in the Fiji Islands as time allowed from her employment at a resort. From there the work expanded; administration grew to some teaching, and reached other South Pacific nations such as Tonga and New Zealand as well as at home in Hawaii.

In 1997 the mission became full time when God called her to the AFCI Service Center in Marietta, GA and she left her beloved Pacific islands to live in southeastern USA. As Coordinator (Office Manager), Cathy was responsible for overseeing daily operations; staff management, finances and communications with staff and donors around the world.

Five years later Cathy was called to Pigeon Forge, TN, where she served as assistant to Rev. Jeff Brooks at First Baptist Church (www.fbcpf.org). Then, in the Lord’s perfect timing, the vision of a ministry He first revealed to her in 1998 began to take on life. The vision had been “for a time in the future” (Habakkuk 2:2-3) so, in 2005 when God simply said, “Go,” she did. Her new location is northwestern Arizona.

While Cathy’s professional career centered on administration and human resources, she never wandered far from her passion for other cultures, peoples, and places – or for creative writing. Now the Lord is expanding her territory as an AFCI-USA Ministry Associate:

NATIVE AMERICAN: Four Corners Native American Ministry (FCNAM), with training centers in Window Rock, AZ, capitol of the Navajo Nation, and its headquarters in Shiprock NM. Participating in quarterly training seminars at the Window Rock Center, Cathy provides a review of the previous seminar through a short quiz designed from notes of the speaker, helping to refresh and enhance the learning process for these pastors and church leaders. Cooking teams travel from Manzanita Baptist Church in Kingman (www.manzanitabaptist.org) to provide three full meals for the Navajo church leaders at their weekend training seminars.

PACIFIC ISLANDS: The Fiji ministry documentary begun in 2006 will tell the encouraging story of one family’s call and the faith and perseverance of their team through 35 years of serving the Lord throughout the South Pacific. Gathering data and interviews is a continuous process and challenging when it requires Cathy to be on site; a tentative trip has been scheduled in 2008.

CREATIVE WRITING: Projects such as the Fiji documentary and a series of lessons on Christian Maturity keep Cathy busy when she is not on the road, in addition to prayer and study in the word. Recent articles are on the website; her teaching booklet, Forgiven, is in print. Several more articles are under way. A family historical project is in process.

Cathy is prayerfully watching for further direction and purpose, daily looking to the Lord for her next steps, and would covet your prayers for those opportunities the Lord is planning for 2008.

A native Californian born in Alameda, Cathy was active as a youth in her church. But after graduating from UCLA with a B.A. in Geography she found herself ‘way off track in matters of the spirit; her early adulthood was spent searching for a meaningful existence. A mid-life move to Kauai opened the way to discover truth and guidance in the Scriptures under the discipleship of Rev. N. Stan Hankins (AFCI-USA evangelist). There in the Pacific God revived her spirit, set her on a straight path and she dedicated her life to following Jesus (Galatians 2:20).

Cathy’s sons, Charles and Terrence, were born in Dinuba, a small agricultural community in California’s central valley. Although she suffered a failed marriage, she can rejoice that Charles is thriving as the father of two beautiful children, Robert and Brianna. Terry went to be with the Lord as an infant so Cathy is looking forward to that reunion one day.
